One Blink at a Time (formerly titled Tears, Laughs, and Triumphs), the book Ismail and Cheryl Tsieprati wrote about their 30-year journey with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease), is now available for purchase on Amazon.com. The book includes a beautiful and moving Introduction written by Ted Harada, an inspiring ALS patient and advocate and a Member of the ALS Association National Board of Trustees. It also includes a touching Foreword written by Ismail’s dear friend, Phil Gries, who has been like a brother to Ismail for 52 years.
One Blink at a Time is an upbeat, inspiring story of courage and optimism. Ismail and Cheryl recount in alternating chapters how they deal with their daily challenges living for 30 years with ALS. Although ALS has stolen Ismail’s ability to move, speak, even to breathe on his own, it has not taken away his determination to live a happy and productive life. Ismail spelled out his chapters using eye blinks, letter by letter, word by word. His and Cheryl’s distinctive voices add to the impact of this exceptional book.
Full of practical advice from training caregivers to preparing for emergencies to surviving the hospital, the book also includes an extensive glossary and helpful resources.
Above all else, One Blink at a Time is an inspiring love story. Ismail and Cheryl are as devoted to one another today as they were the day they were married 44 years ago.
A portion of the proceeds from the sales of the book will be donated to the ALS Association.
